New PlayNow plus service to be available on selected Sony Ericsson handsets

Sony Ericsson has signed a deal with Omnifone to power its unlimited music download service PlayNow plus.

It will be available free on selected Walkman handsets, which will be preloaded with 1,000 tracks and have the service free for one year. After this time, as well as on other compatible handsets, the service will be available for £2 per week.

Omnifone claims tracks take up to eight seconds to download via 3G/HSDPA. When a customer cancels their subscription they can save up to 300 tracks in MP3 format, free from digital rights management so they can be transferred to other devices.

The service will be rolled out on Swedish network Telenor on the W902 handset in Q4. The UK is set to receive the service in the first quarter of 2009, with a range of handsets being preloaded with the application. Read More SONY ERICSSON WALKMAN PHONES TO GET 1,000 FREE TRACKS
